„It’s here where we make the glasses. Not in Asia. That’s what one sees, one tastes, one feels, one loves and one pays for. Sadly or thankfully?“ - Ralph Anderl

Manufacture

Each pair of ic! berlin glasses really are produced in Berlin, Germany. Our frames are luxury products, hand-finished, piece by piece. This eliminates unnecessary gaps between design, production, and distribution – no “made in china”. This is the only way to guarantee the highest degree of quality in
the long term: made in Berlin – made in Germany! When you hold a pair of ic! berlin glasses in your hands, you can feel why all of this effort
is justified: the glasses captivate you with their stability of form and their flexibility. The rounded edges caress your fingers. ic! berlin glasses do not allow for compromises, because they are naked. Because we don’t screw, solder, or weld, no pair of ic! berlin glasses can fall apart leaving you with its individual components and unable to put them back together again!

Steel

Cool, plain, smooth.. in ic! berlin eyewear hot, exciting and loud! the raw material offers highest quality. our glasses are made of very flexible 0,5 mm thick stainless steel – cut by laser from one piece of metal. the decision for this raw material makes ic! berlin sheet glasses exeptionally lightweighted. Between 7 and 28g, thats it! Spring steel is very flexible and can be adapted to any face. The reliability of extreme lightness and precise adjustment maximum comfort. ic! berlin glasses are virtually indestructible. Individual parts can be reassembled within seconds. And if the metal frame should be bent once, the user can quickly bend it back to it’s original shape. Shapes? Based on the unlimited freedom in design that spring steel provides, basically any form is possible.

Plastic!

Actually this is somehow deceptive, because in reality our glasses are (besides metal, of course) made of cellulose acetate, commonly known as acetyl cellulose - "acetate". That is a thermoplastic material, which is made of natural cellulose obtained in a reaction with acetic acid.  So we are dealing with a natural product here. Spun into a smooth fiber, the shine of acetate is similar to silk. It is then laminated to an individually colored block and finally milled into shape... And the colours, my gosh, look at the colours!

Material
Material

We place a great deal of value on the steel. the quality of this material determines the overall quality of the glasses. for this reason, we rely solely on german producers, who brew the stuff together in Germany, in exact compliance with our requirements. our buyers base their purchasing decisions from time to time on surface finish impressions, tensile strength tests, and form- retention stability.
The front pieces are cut directly in Berlin in the north of italy (valdo- biaddere). the flat raw pieces are then reformed in berlin, and the edges rounded and smoothed in a small village near brandenburg. this is done using a large multiangular trovalising (vibratory grinding process) machine. after about ten hours, sharp metal edges are transformed into tender feminine curves.
the cutting and routing of the lenses is done directly on our premises in saarbrücker strasse, where finishing and quality control takes place as well. our storeroom can also be found on the same floor, and from here our logistic experts ship the glasses out worldwide.
on the whole, it can be said that business relationships which have taken many years to develop guarantee the highest possible level
 of quality.
